TREATMENTS

I know the food stuff can suck. But I want you to know, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve seen too many patients show up at my door after wasting endless hours and thousands of dollars on therapy that didn’t help. Because these unique challenges need trained professionals.

My integrative approach draws on evidence-based, research-backed methods that work with your body, food, and emotions together as one. Whether it’s an eating disorder, emotional eating, or concerns about your child's weight, it is essential that you go to someone who is trained.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am struggling with food, but I'm not underweight. Do I need help?
You may be suffering from an eating disorder, or disordered eating, with no signs of weight loss. In fact, in most cases, women who struggle with eating disorders or disordered eating are at a normal weight, or overweight. Your weight is not a measurement of your struggle!
  • Everyone diets. How do I know if my dieting is a problem?
You are right, we live in a culture where dieting is a norm. However, not all norms are healthy. If you feel like food is taking up too much head space, and it's stopping you from living your best life, it may be a good time to reach out for help. If you’re still unsure, check up my blog post about the eating spectrum.
  • My teen is dieting, how do I know if this is dangerous, or just a phase?
It’s true, the majority of teens experiment with dieting. In most cases, dieting is not suggested for teens because they are in a critical stage of growth and development. If you notice signs of dieting, you should take your teen to a physician and dietitian to be monitored.
  • How long can treatment last?
Each patient improves at their own pace. For some it may be a few months, and others may need an extended amount of time.
  • I’m worried that my teen is struggling but am not totally sure. How can I know?
It’s normal to feel uncertain about whether your child’s eating is problematic or not. To clear up confusion, I’ve put together a list of warning signs. Check out my blog for the full list here. If you’re still unsure, that’s okay. You don’t need to make an assessment, that's my job. Share any concerns in a free 15 minute consultation call and get clear about if your child needs help.
  • What do we do in treatment?
Here’s an outline of a typical session: We’ll begin with a breathing exercise to get you grounded in your body. I’ll ask you to focus on your breath and relax. Next we will speak about any conflict or struggle that arose for you this week around food or body image. Together we'll process the event, get curious about what triggered it and come up with tools for how to better deal with the situation next time. Then we will discuss what you’ve been eating and strategize about finding the best food for your body’s metabolism. Lastly, I’ll give you a homework practice to journal your eating and include your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations before, after, and during meal time.
  • Which treatment is best for teens?
The most effective treatment for treating eating disorders in teens is called FBT- Family based treatment. Check out my blog post for more info.
